Kinetic Engineers Ltd were appointed as the Quality Assurance Manager to oversee the design, installation, validation and commissioning of the Mechanical and Electrical services within the new facility. When fully operational, the 20,000m2 facility will have the capacity to manufacture over 2,000 fan and turbine discs per year. Fan discs and turbine discs are at the heart of the engine operating at high stress in extreme conditions providing the engines thrust. They provide the power for a wide range of aircraft including the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and Airbus 380.
There are a wide variety of installed mechanical and electrical systems within the facility from multiple ventilation system which control the main halls to +/- 2oC, central chilled water plant, close control DX cooling units, demineralised water plant and a site wide building management system along with HV & LV voltage distribution and general lighting and controls.
The project has been managed by Turner & Townsend, has been constructed by Miller Construction whilst the mechanical and electrical design and build contractor was Balfour Beatty Engineering Services Ltd. It is due for handover this month and production will commence early next year.
